State Parks introduces Ranger Rio, outdoor ambassador <\/strong><\/h1>\n

SANTA FE \u2013New Mexico State Parks will introduce its new mascot, Ranger Rio, at State Fair, which opens on Sept. 10.<\/p>\n

Ranger Rio is inspired by one of New Mexico\u2019s most iconic and adaptable wildlife species, the coyote. Found in every corner of the state, the coyote\u2019s blend of awareness, intelligence, and adaptability mirrors the work of the New Mexico State Park rangers and educators \u2014 always observing, always learning and always ready to guide park visitors.<\/p>\n

\u201cRanger Rio represents the heart of a ranger for many of us and is a friendly and accessible way for state parks to reach families, students, and outdoor enthusiasts,\u201d said New Mexico State Parks Division Director Toby Vel\u00e1squez. <\/strong>\u201cBeing able to introduce Rio at this year\u2019s state fair is a testament to the collaborative efforts between agencies that were inspired to support responsible recreation and a stronger sense of shared community and conservation on public lands.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ranger Rio emerged from a creative partnership with the New Mexico Marketing Center of Excellence, a division of the New Mexico Tourism Department, and the design firm Roving Bee<\/a> based in New Mexico and New York City.<\/p>\n

Ranger Rio will first appear through a series of stickers and educational materials inviting State Fair visitors to visit any of the New Mexico\u2019s 35 state parks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s important to create characters and stories that grow with New Mexico\u2019s kids,\u201d said Lancing Adams, <\/strong>acting cabinet secretary of the New Mexico Tourism Department.<\/a> \u201cThrough the Marketing Center of Excellence<\/a>, we\u2019re proud to support projects like Ranger Rio that make our public spaces more welcoming, educational and engaging for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n

State Parks is releasing only a silhouette of Ranger Rio today, inviting the public to visit its booth at the New Mexico State Fair Sept. 10-20 for the full character reveal and exclusive sticker giveaways.<\/p>\n

Visitors to the Natural Resources building at the State Fair can also explore educational resources and learn about upcoming opportunities to connect with Ranger Rio as he makes appearances across the state.<\/p>\n

New Mexico State Parks is a division of the Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department. The Division manages 35 state parks across New Mexico and works to protect and enhance natural and cultural resources, provide recreational and educational opportunities, and promote public safety for the benefit of residents and visitors.<\/p>\n
