Foster Family Benefits at New Mexico State Parks

New Mexico State Parks proudly supports foster families by offering FREE day‑use entry and FREE camping at all state park locations statewide. This benefit recognizes the essential role foster families play in our communities and ensures that every child has the opportunity to experience New Mexico’s natural beauty.

What Benefits Do Foster Families Receive?

New Mexican foster families are eligible for:

  • Free day‑use entry at all 35 New Mexico State Parks
  • Free camping for up to three consecutive nights per visit
  • Free annual day‑use pass, available directly at any park office


These benefits apply to:

  • Foster parents and the children in their care
  • Young adults enrolled in the Fostering Connections Program
  • Children in custody of CYFD
  • Children in tribal custody
  • All participants must be New Mexico residents
What Do I Need to Bring?

To receive free entry or camping, please provide proof of eligibility at the park entrance station or visitor center.

Acceptable documentation includes:

  • A valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ID
  • CYFD documentation showing foster status, such as:
    • Foster parent ID card
    • Stipend stub
    • Placement agreement

Park staff will verify your documents and issue your free pass.

About the Foster Family Benefit Rule

 

This program is established under 19.5.2.38 NMAC and supported by House Bill 303 (2019). The rule grants qualifying New Mexico foster families free access to state parks to support outdoor recreation, family well‑being, and connection to nature.
