New Mexico State Parks Celebrates National Fishing & Boating Week with Free Day-Use Statewide from June 6-7 

SANTA FE, N.M. – In recognition of National Fishing and Boating Week (June 6-14), New Mexico State Parks will offer free day-use at all state parks that provide fishing and boating opportunities on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7.  

“Outdoor recreation is part of New Mexico’s culture, and this week is a reminder of how much fishing and boating contribute to our quality of life,” said, Toby Velásquez, director of New Mexico State Parks. “By offering free day-use during the opening weekend of National Fishing and Boating Week, we hope more families will get outside, experience a new state park, and connect with New Mexico’s rural communities.”

National Fishing and Boating Week (NFBW) honors the important role these activities play in America’s outdoor heritage and highlights the conservation benefits generated through the Federal Aid in Sport Fish Restoration Act, which has contributed more than $12 billion nationwide since 1950 to support fisheries management, aquatic education, habitat restoration, and boating access. 

New Mexico joins more than 30 states offering free fishing opportunities as part of NFBW, giving residents and visitors an easy way to introduce someone new to the sport or return to it themselves. Your New Mexico state parks offer lakes, rivers, trails and shoreline access, visitors can pair their fishing plans with camping, hiking, paddling, wildlife viewing, or simply enjoying time outdoors.
