The City of Socorro’s baseball field has long been a gathering place for
families, athletes, and community members, but the recent upgrades
made possible through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF)
have truly elevated this beloved space. Thanks to the LWCF grant, ad
ministered by the State Parks Division, the installation of new, modern
field lighting has transformed the facility into a safer, more vibrant and
more accessible venue.

The benefits go far beyond athletic programs. The improved lighting has
revitalized the baseball field as a community gathering space, encourage
aging more residents to come out and support local teams. It has also
positioned Socorro to host tournaments and larger events that bring
visitors into town, providing a welcome boost to local businesses and
strengthening community pride.

” The LWCF grant has helped ensure that this important recreational space remains a place where memories are made and traditions continue. The City of Socorro is deeply grateful for this investment, which will benefit
our community for many years to come.”

– Lena Chavez, Soccoro Assistant City Manager
