Villanueva State Park – Est. 1967
The park is nestled between high sandstone bluffs that form a canyon along the Pecos River near the small Village of Villanueva. Camp or picnic under the shade of giant cottonwood trees. Enjoy fishing, birding, wildflower viewing, or hiking the trails along the canyon walls. A group shelter is available to rent and makes a great place for gatherings and reunions. Remember, the Village of Villanueva is a small historic town. Please obey the posted speed limit and drive slowly through the community.
Want to visit?
This park offers electricity, a dump station, and popular developed campsites along the Pecos River. The park can host RVs up to 40 feet. First come, first serve sites are available year-round. Spaces 26c-36c in the El Cerro campground are offered April through October, and sites 20-25 are available November through March. Please note that the park gates will be locked at 7 PM in the winter season (October-March), and 9 PM during the summer season (April-September). Generators and radios/music must be turned off by 10 PM nightly. A Camp Host is also available on-site year-round.

Travel tips:
- Purchase a Day-Use Pass online in advance at Reserve America for convenience
- Quality fishing for catfish is available in summer, and trout is abundant in winter
- Tubing on the Pecos River is a popular activity. Please bring lifejackets it’s the law!
- Pets are welcome on a leash. Please clean up after
- Villanueva is located between Santa Fe (59 miles) and Las Vegas (35 miles)
- The park is located on NM Highhway3 between I-40 and I-25
- A local restaurant is located 5 minutes away
- The park experiences all four seasons, prepare accordingly
