The San Pedro Mine Safeguard Project- Phase I is located near the towns of San Pedro and Golden in Santa Fe County, New Mexico. The project area (see Figures 1 and 2) is on 490.5 acres of private and BLM land in Sections 21, 22, 27 and 28 , Township 12 North, Range 7 East (USGS 7.5’ San Pedro Quadrangle).

This project involves the following work:

• Backfilling 10 mine shafts using mine waste and other nearby material;

• Backfilling 13 mine adits using mine waste and other nearby material, some of which have limited access available and will require backfilling by hand;

• Construction of one horizontal bat gate; 

• Construction of one bat cupola;

• Construction of a bat gate with with a rock bulkhead at one adit;

• Construction of a bat gate at one adit;.

• Construction of a concrete wall with a bat grate at one mine shaft;

• Construction of an airflow closure incorporating high tensile steel mesh at one mine shaft;

• Installation of strand barbed wire fence around mine features not included in the environmental assessment;

• Seeding of all areas disturbed by construction.

Note the time restrictions for closure of some of the mine features, as detailed in Table II of Division 2.

Demobilization shall be conducted in such a manner to ensure that the Contractor leaves all project areas in as good or better condition than before disturbance.
