GRANTS URANIUM – SPENCER MINE SAFEGUARD AND RECLAMATION PROJECT
SUMMARY OF WORK
The Grants Uranium – Spencer Mine Safeguard and Reclamation Project is located 24 miles north of Grants in McKinley County, New Mexico. The project area (see Figures 1 and 2) is on BLM and private land in Sections 5 and 8, Township 13 North, Range 9 West (USGS 7.5’ Ambrosia Lake and Dos Lomas Quadrangles).
This project involves the following work:
- Protecting workers from radiation, providing health and safety plan
- Plugging 5 mine shafts using reinforced concrete plug covered by at least three (3) feet of clean material; plugging 4 conduits with concrete
- Preventing pollution BMPs, SWPPP Permit, complete in place
- Surveying construction layout and control, complete in place
- Removing and legally disposing of all structures and obstructions
- Excavating mine spoil piles; haul to and place in designated area and compact
- Placing re-contouring fill; borrow, haul, place, compact, and trim to achieve plan lines and grades
- Placing rock for sill structures with Class III non-woven geotextile filter fabric underlay, complete in place
- Seeding, fertilizing and mulching of all areas disturbed by construction
- Supplying and installing biodegradable double net coconut straw erosion control blanket
