Program Eligibility and Allowable Use
- Seedlings purchased through the Conservation Seedling Program must be used for conservation plantings within New Mexico. Allowable uses include:
- Reforestation
- Wind protection
- Urban and community forestry
- Rangeland restoration
- Forest restoration
- Erosion control
- Streambank or floodplain restoration
- Nursery up-pot
- Cultural or traditional use
- A valid email address is required to complete your order and receive status updates.
- You must also specify the primary purpose of the planting, along with the zip code and approximate elevation of the planting site.
- After submitting payment online, you must click “Finalize Payment” on the third‑party credit card receipt page to complete your order. If this step is skipped, your seedling order will not be recorded in our inventory systems, and you will not receive seedlings.
Additional Ordering and Payment Information
- We no longer accept paper order forms. Please use our online ordering form or visit your local Forestry Division district office for assistance with ordering. for assistance with ordering.
- An order minimum applies:
- For fall distribution, seedlings grown in 10-cubic inch containers must be ordered in lots of 49 seedlings per species. (i.e. One lot = 49 species).
- Spring distribution is limited to orders we receive through our Order Request Form that are larger than six lots (multiple species lots may be selected).
- Ordering Fees Apply
- $5 handling fee per order
- $50 per lot shipping fee when you select delivery at checkout
- $95/lot of 49 seedlings in small 10 cubic- inch containers.
- Secure your seedlings with an order request. Beginning fall 2026, the Forestry Division will accept order requests:
- 12 months in advance for fall distribution (i.e. submit your order request in fall 2026 to plant in fall 2027)
- 12-18 months in advance for spring distribution (i.e. submit your order request by fall or winter 2026 to plant in spring 2028)
- Order requests made 12 months in advance do not require payment at the time of submission. Payment may be made starting July 1 prior to distribution season.
- Same year ordering will continue to be available for fall distribution and may carry a higher price per seedling to reflect additional costs to the Forestry Division. Payment must accompany same-year orders.
- Credit card purchasses must be completed online.
- Checks must be made out to New Mexico Forestry Division. By providing a check as payment, you authorize the State of New Mexico to either use information from your check to make a one‑time electronic fund transfer from your account or to process the payment as a check transaction.
- Purchase orders are accepted from schools and local, state and federal government agencies.
- No cash-on-delivery orders will be accepted.
