Community Mitigation Maps

The interactive map below describes mitigation treatments within New Mexico. Data is based on vegetation, past fire history, slope and topography. Clicking through the map presents communities state-wide that can benefit from future mitigation efforts. Mitigation efforts are activities such as vegetation removal, home hardening and ordinance adoption, along with increased education and outreach.

This data utilized county-level risk considerations, including CWPPs. For more information on Communities at Risk, and Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP) click here.

Home Hardening with Neighborhood Flame & Ember Zones

The interactive map below uses data from the above map and others to illustrate flame and ember zones statewide. These zones are important to recognize as they help communities and target future mitigation and treatment efforts.

This data utilized county-level risk considerations, including CWPPs. For more information on Communities at Risk, and Community Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP) click here.

This data also utilized risk considerations developed by the Insurance Institute of Business and Home Safety (IBHS) and uses their Wildfire Prepared Homes standards.
